Shade Systems designs and builds sports court covers and canopies for New Zealand schools, councils and sports clubs: waterproof, wind-zone engineered structures that keep netball, tennis and basketball courts, sidelines and spectator areas in play whatever the forecast.

From covered basketball and netball courts to sun-safe seating zones and player dugouts, our engineered structures support high-traffic use while enhancing safety, usability, and comfort. Whether it’s a full tensile roof over your court or modular canopies along the sideline, we build durable, low-maintenance solutions that work with your space and usage patterns.

REASONS TO WORK WITH US

faq.

What size sports courts can you cover?

We can design structures to span full-sized netball, tennis, or basketball courts — with clear spans of 18–35 metres or more depending on the sport and site. Each design is engineered to your specific space.

Can lighting be integrated into the shelter?

Yes. We offer integrated lighting options — especially useful for schools, clubs, and community venues that run evening training or matches.

Does my COLA Canopy® structure need maintenance? How often?

Yes, your structure will need regular maintenance and upkeep so you can enjoy peace of mind knowing it will continually perform optimally and look its best for years to come.
Our Aftercare team is always ready to address any maintenance needs, keeping your outdoor space functional and attractive.

We recommend your structure is professionally cleaned according to the guide below.

Are your sports shelters suitable for wind-prone areas?

Absolutely. All our designs are rated to your local wind zone and engineered to meet NZ building standards, including for high and very high wind areas.

How long does installation take?

For a full court canopy, installation typically takes 3–5 weeks depending on access and site conditions. We’ll manage the project start to finish and work with your schedule to minimise disruption.

How are spectators and sidelines sheltered?

Court covers can extend past the run-off to shelter sideline seating, or we add separate spectator shelters and player dugouts along the sideline. Both can carry lighting and club or sponsor branding. Tell us how many people watch a typical game and we will size the cover to suit.

testimonial.

For us the shade structure is really important, we are a growing school, 600 kids now, and we have limited shade here and our school hall is not big enough to hold a full school assembly so for us it’s a twofold space, an outdoor space in summer, and in winter we can also be under here when it’s raining.
