“Putting in NZ’s first and only crochet net by Japanese Artist Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam meant we were faced with a challenge on how to create an attractive and efficient shade system. Shade Systems ideas and flexibility, were just what we needed to make this an outstanding feature in our Urban landscape”David Sutherland, Owner - Whoa! Studios
Based in Henderson, Auckland, Whoa! Studios is undoubtedly the most exciting new destination when it comes to family fun. The park is home to a number of attractions including urban and adventure playgrounds and opened to the public mid-December 2016.
In an Australasian first, the park includes a crochet playing net, crafted over two years using 70 kilometers of coloured nylon, stretching from a 12 meter high structure. The net is designed for children to weave their way through to reaching the upper layers, before finding their way out again.
A bespoke shade structure solution
Shade Systems were asked to create a bespoke solution to protect against UV rays and shelter children from the elements. We initially looked at providing just a canopy, before supplying the whole support framework for the net and incorporating a PVC canopy.
