In 2020, the WDC made the decision to rejuvenate the Town Basin playground, which had been in place for around a decade and was showing signs of wear and an outdated appearance. The transformation involved removing and replacing 90% of the playground equipment, replacing the traditional bark surface with modern rubber matting. Although the existing shade sails could have been retained, the WDC opted to update their colour scheme to complement the new nautical theme. These distinctive sails feature an extra tall center pole and a 90% twist in each sail, culminating vertically at the center, creating a striking three-dimensional effect.
