Westmere School

A future-proof school

Principal Carolyn Marino has overseen several years of construction at her 103-year-old school.

Westmere School underwent a $9.9 million redevelopment in 2015 which saw three-quarters of the school refurbished or rebuilt. The school had a major roll growth that required many new classrooms to cater for up to 750 students. At the time, Carolyn said, “It’s so much more than a building project, it’s going to impact hugely on the quality of teaching and learning.”

Then in 2017 Westmere School made another huge step to improve their quality of teaching and learning. The Board contacted Shade Systems to help them come up with a shade concept to cover a netball court. The COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) solution we offered not only allows the students to play outside in all weather, but it also has many other uses –  assemblies and school gatherings, school performances. It is a solution to space issues and a creative way to take learning outside.

Westmere School is definitely future-proof for the next few decades.

Shade Systems are proud to have been involved with this canopy shade project at Westmere School.
