Te Wharekura O Te Rau Aroha
Te Wharekura O Te Rau Arhoa is a composite school (years 1-15) situated in Matamata, Waikato. This school is the heart of the Maori community in the area. It is a place where Christian and Maori values and beliefs are nurtured. When the School found out about COLA’s (Covered Outdoor Learning Areas) they knew this was exactly what they needed in the heart of their School.
Hinematua Gillet first enquired about a COLA in August 2016 , as they wanted to protect their tamariki (children) from all weather, especially the harsh New Zealand UV. Shade Systems worked with her over the next 6 months to come up with the perfect concept and solution to cover the central courtyard area. The contract was signed in June 2017.
They chose the premium option COLA canopy due to the 25-year warranty in the PVC fabric and the 2-coat polysiloxane paint system over the framework. As a result there will be little maintenance time and money spent in the future due to the weather resistant materials used.
There was a delay in the start date due to a very wet winter. The installation of the canopy started in August. However, it had to be stalled until the beginning of December because the water table was very high. Once the project was up and running again the COLA shade canopy was completed in 3 weeks. This project was our last for 2017. Looking at this stunning structure, it was a perfect way to end the year!
