Rarotonga National Auditorium

Are you sitting comfortably?

In April 2015, we were approached by the Project Manager of an architectural company in Rarotonga with a very vague brief – “We are looking at some options for an open area of about 36m x 24m for the National Auditorium on Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

We were given the challenge to get a shade solution designed, approved, ¬†manufactured, shipped to the Cook Islands and installed by July, in time for the celebrations of the island’s 50-year anniversary of independence.

The race was on. We wanted to prove to this small island community that we could achieve the impossible. Although initially briefed on producing one large canopy, Shade Systems manufactured and supplied twin canopies placed adjacent to each other either side of the main entry to the Rarotonga National Auditorium. This has given the auditorium additional seating space whilst protecting patrons from the sun and occasional showers.
