Project Promise Cancer Treatment Centre
It’s always a privilege to be given the opportunity to be involved in a community project, and Shade Systems are proud to have been part of the hugely successful Project Promise oncology clinic at the Whangarei Hospital. Launched in 2010, Project Promise aimed to collect $3 million in 3 years – a somewhat daunting challenge, but one that Northlanders rose to enthusiastically and by October 2013 the target was finally reached. Work on the 741m2 clinic commenced soon after, with the construction being completed by late 2014.
Shade Systems came on board to provide a canopy over the ramp leading up to the clinic’s entrance. This served to provide our workshop team with something of a challenge, due to the right angle bends in the walkway. However, with a bit of classic Shade Systems ingenuity, this was overcome and the 17 metre canopy was quickly installed.
A real community effort
Made of a specially imported grey PVC fabric tensioned over a painted cantilever frame, the design and appearance of the canopy ensure that it blends seamlessly into the architecture and finishing of the rest of the new clinic.
Shade Systems also provided the clinic with a shade sail over the staffroom’s deck area, which provides clinic staff with a cool and shady retreat during the hot summer months.
It was a great experience to part of this project, which will provide care and assistance to those suffering from cancer for years to come. We’d also like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who contributed to Project Promise and made it possible to complete this fantastic development.
