Papakura Normal School
Block out the heat
Papakura Normal is a large educational establishment with over 620 children in attendance. Originally opened in 1953 as the training school for Ardmore Teachers College, it now has student teachers from both Auckland and Manukau Campus’ doing their practical training.
Shade Systems were tasked with finding a solution to an age-old problem, solar gain – the increase in temperature in a space, object or structure. A row of classrooms in a block at the school has a row of north facing windows and the classrooms were getting uncomfortably hot with all day sun.
The teachers and children can now enjoy lessons again, thanks to the colourful, stylish and functional HyparShade sails manufactured and installed by Shade Systems.
