"That’s exactly what we want"
The new shade sails at Palmerston North’s Lido outdoor pool stand as a testament to the drive of Sunsmart advisor Kerry Hocquard and the innovation and adaptability of the team at Shade Systems. Ms Hocquard contacted the Palmerston North Council after results from a local survey proved conclusively that shade was needed at the outdoor facility, and Lynne McMillan was put in charge of the project. “The community spoke, the council listened – a great outcome.” Initially, Ms McMillan’s specifications seemed simple; she had seen a photo of the PVC shading at the Kauri Coast Community Pool and that was exactly what she wanted – right down to the alternating blue and white colour scheme.
Back to basics…
After initial quotes were rejected, and with the instruction to make it more simple, Shade Systems took things back to the basics – simple, clean lines and innovative fastening configurations to minimise the number of poles. Upon hearing the client mention they were unsure where the shade would fall at different times of day throughout the year, our in-house artist had a full set of photorealistic drawings drawn up and delivered in less than 24 hours, which showed this clearly. The client was thrilled and the dotted line was signed shortly afterwards.
The sails have been applauded as a great example of teamwork that helps make the Palmerston North community safer and healthier. Pool users and spectators can relax, knowing they are protected from the harmful effects of UV radiation, thanks to the ample protection the sails offer.
