Millennium Institute of Sport and Health

Even though we’re taught from a young age to not judge by appearances, human nature often scuttles that well intentioned lesson. As a result, while looks might not be everything, they sure play a large part in how we view the world. With the event of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, which was hosted in New Zealand, many buildings in Auckland began to undergo impressive facelifts in anticipation of the hundreds of tourists who would flood the city come November.

Shade Systems love a challenge!

Among these was the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health in North Shore City. Shade Systems was approached in January 2011 to price a façade – which was a first, but we love a challenge! Pricing and designs were duly submitted to Argon Construction, who were the main contractors for the project. The go ahead was granted on 20th April 2011 and work began – sourcing fabrics, finalising the design to be printed on it, and constructing the frame which the façade was attached to. Shade Systems collaborated with the main contractor and other sub-contractors to meet the strict deadline, working as specialist fabric/membrane advisors to the architects.

Our part of the project was completed in October 2011, just in time for the Rugby World Cup event. As a finishing touch to a great project, the centre opened by some of the dignitaries present for the World Cup. Credit must also be given to the various other sub-contractors and team members, who all pulled together to complete this project on time, and to an excellent standard.
