Millennium Institute of Sport and Health
Even though we’re taught to not judge by appearances, human nature often scuttles that well intentioned lesson. As a result, while looks might not be everything, they sure play a large part in how we view the world. With the event of the 2011 Rugby World Cup hosted in New Zealand, many buildings in Auckland began to undergo impressive face-lifts. This was in anticipation of the hundreds of tourists who would flood the city come November.
Shade Systems love a challenge!
The Millennium Institute of Sport and Health in North Shore City was among those buildings. They approached Shade Systems in January 2011 to price a façade. A first, but we love a challenge! Pricing and designs were duly submitted to Argon Construction, who were the main contractors for the project. We were given the go ahead on 20th April 2011 and work began. We sourced fabrics, finalised the design to print on it, and constructed the frame the façade attached to. Shade Systems collaborated with the main contractor and other sub-contractors to meet the strict deadline, working as specialist fabric/membrane advisors to the architects.
We completed our part of the project in October 2011, just in time for the Rugby World Cup event. As a finishing touch to a great project, the centre opened by some of the dignitaries present for the World Cup. Credit is due to the various other sub-contractors and team members, who all pulled together to complete this project on time, and to an excellent standard.
