Rotorua Lakes High School

A dream come true.
COMPLETED April 2016
FINISHING HD Galv with Enamel Finish

Rotorua Lakes High School had been fundraising for five years for their dream canopy. The school didn’t have enough gym space for all their classes. Therefore, this canopy was a much cheaper option than adding to their current gym or building a new one. Principal, Bruce Walker said, “We wanted to go for something of excellence that would benefit the school.”

In July 2015, Sigma Consultants contacted Shade Systems to submit a quote for tender for the School’s canopy project.  We successfully won this tender with our COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) solution. We took care of the complete build:

  • Design and Documentation
  • Local Authority Fees, Resource Consents, etc
  • Geotechnical Investigation
  • Drainage and Stormwater
  • Installation of Canopy
  • Lighting

The COLA is  35.6 x 37.0m and covers two courts enabling children to train in all kinds of weather. We completed the project by the April School holidays 2016. Thus it was ready for the students and teachers to use from the second term onwards. Since then, netball has really taken off at Rotorua Lakes High. Not only is the COLA used for sports activities, but it is also a place where everyone can gather for full school assemblies. The facility is used every day for physical activity and with the addition of lights, school teams use it at night along with other Rotorua netball teams.

“It has provided us with a much used space where teachers appreciate shade and shelter from the elements. I would have no hesitation in recommending Shade Systems to anyone looking for a quality product.”
