Glenn France, Principal of Port Ahuriri School, first approached Shade Systems in 2017. He expressed an interest in a proposal for a COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) over the central netball court area. He recognised the immense benefits a covered multipurpose space would bring to the School. These benefits include various sporting activities, community events, performances, movie nights etc.

They were finally in a position to move forward with the project in March 2018 after extensive fundraising efforts. Since the COLA Canopy has been installed they have applied TigerTurf artificial turf to the surface. Furthermore, they installed new Airtime Hoops basketball hoops.

These additions complete the COLA. This new facility really brings a fresh breath of life to the School environment. As a result, Port Ahuriri is leading the way now as the first School in Hawkes Bay with a COLA Canopy.
