Located in a semi-rural setting on the east side of Huntly is Kimihia School. Founded in 1897, the school is at the heart of the local community.

The school Board of Trustees approached Shade Systems with a common problem. They wanted to know how to utilise an outside court area to create additional space for teaching, sports and activities. So the design team at Shade Systems proposed a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) solution.

The covered in area is a well utilised during the day and is used for a variety of learning contexts. The COLA over the basketball court has had a positive impact on Kimihia students and the wider community. They now have community coming in before school and teaching students basketball skills, strengthening our community ties.

“The covered in area is well utilised during the day and is used for a variety of learning contexts.”
