Councils and Community
Local councils and community groups have a duty of care to protect those using their facilities from the harsh UV rays of the sun.
We have a huge amount of shade management experience in this arena. For us, it’s not just about providing protection against the elements, it’s also about enhancing the look and safe use of community spaces.
Shade Systems can help local councils create parks, public spaces and facilities that truly enrich your community by providing practical and appealing hubs for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and value.
As experts in compliance, we know that every building project must comply with the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) and the Building Act 2004 (the Building Act). These laws define the situations in which you need a resource consent and/or a building consent; and what you need to do to get them.
Building consent is required for any shade sail that is over 50 m2, is less than 1m from a boundary or is above ground level. Any canopy or hip roof structure over 20 m2 also requires building consent. For your peace of mind, we design and build all our shade structures to meet the NZ Building Code.
